She says: "The Calabi conjecture states that a compact Kähler manifold has a unique Kähler metric in the same class whose Ricci form is any given 2-form representing the first Chern class. In particular if the first Chern class vanishes there is a unique Kähler metric in the same class with vanishing Ricci curvature; these are called Calabi–Yau manifolds."

He says: "A complex surface is an complex manifold of dimension two. The Enriques-Kodaira classification and the list of complex surfaces give an overview of the possibilities. A non-singular complex surface is a 4-manifold." and ... hopefully ... "Would you like a drink ?"

She pauses, looking at the awkward Ricci form floating in the cabin, then replies "I am sorry but ...Ricci-flat manifolds often have restricted holonomy groups. Important cases include Calabi–Yau manifolds and hyperkähler manifolds."

There was an awkward silence. He quickly realised that it had become past tense and the conversation had no substance.
